BIO-key Extends Rally After Landing Its Seventh Gulf Government Customer in Six Months

BIO-key (NASDAQ: BKYI) jumped 30% after landing its seventh Gulf government customer in six months, topping the PRISM Cybersecurity Index.

BIO-key International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BKYI) shares kept climbing Friday after the biometric identity company signed another Middle East government customer. The stock jumped 30.5% to $2.74 on Thursday after BIO-key announced the contract. It then added nearly 14% more to $3.12 in premarket trading Friday, which puts it at the top of the PRISM Cybersecurity Index.

Key Points

  • A security-focused institution within a Gulf-region national government chose BIO-key’s PortalGuard identity and access management (IAM) platform and its biometric authentication suite.
  • The deal marks BIO-key’s seventh new Gulf-region customer in the past six months.
  • It follows an October 13 contract with another Middle East government security agency.
  • BIO-key’s Passkey:YOU authenticator earned full FIDO Alliance certification in September, which strengthens its passwordless offering.

BIO-key (NASDAQ: BKYI) Wins Another Government Security Deal

The new customer will deploy a full package of BIO-key products: the PortalGuard IAM platform, Passkey:YOU FIDO2 passwordless authentication, the WEB-key biometric engine and EcoID III fingerprint scanners. Together, they form what BIO-key calls an Identity-Bound Biometrics solution. It replaces passwords and legacy logins with phishing-resistant access tied to each employee’s fingerprint. BIO-key did not disclose the contract’s value or the customer’s country.

“Being selected by an institution with such demanding security requirements is an important validation,” said Alex Rocha, managing director at BIO-key. A senior technical official at the institution said security and operational efficiency “were our highest priorities throughout this project.”

Gulf-region integration partner VaporVM will handle local deployment and support. “We believe this project will serve as a strong reference for additional government agencies,” said Fadi Al Otaibi, senior director at VaporVM.

A Growing Gulf Pipeline

BIO-key has made the Middle East its fastest-growing market. Beyond the seven new Gulf customers, it formed a strategic partnership in late September with Dubai-based Al Majlis Group. The two companies will jointly market BIO-key’s platform in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The company’s product lineup also helps. In September, Passkey:YOU received full certification from the FIDO Alliance, the industry body behind passwordless login standards. The authenticator lets employees sign in with a fingerprint or badge, so they don’t need a phone or a separate security key. BIO-key is also pitching the product as a way to control AI agents. “Agentic AI will force a simple question: who approved that action?” said Chief Legal Officer Jim Sullivan.

A Tiny Stock With Big Swings for BIO-key (NASDAQ: BKYI)

Investors should expect volatility. BIO-key has only about 1.7 million shares outstanding and a market value of roughly $5 million, so contract headlines can move the stock sharply. The company is also still unprofitable, with annual revenue of about $6 million. BIO-key is a member of the PRISM Cybersecurity Index.
