Evaxion Reports 89% Vaccine Target Precision and Three-Year Durability for EVX-01 in Advanced Melanoma

Evaxion A/S (NASDAQ: EVAX), a clinical-stage company that designs immunotherapies with its AI-Immunology platform, announced on October 23, 2026 new three-year immune and clinical data from the phase 2 trial of EVX-01, its personalized cancer vaccine for advanced melanoma. According to the company, 89% of the vaccine targets generated tumor-specific T-cell responses, and every patient in the trial mounted an immune response.
Immune Data From the Third Year
EVX-01 is a personalized peptide-based vaccine, so each patient receives a unique vaccine designed and manufactured from their own tumor biology. Evaxion’s platform selects neoantigens, the tumor-specific targets the vaccine trains the immune system to attack, and the 89% figure reflects how many of those selected targets produced a measurable T-cell response.
At the two-year follow-up, that hit rate stood at 86%. Analyses of additional samples collected during the one-year extension raised it to 89%. In addition, the company reported that T-cell responses held their magnitude and breadth through the third year, while patients received EVX-01 on its own.
“The 89% target precision documented in the trial is another confirmation that AI-Immunology identifies and selects the most therapeutically relevant vaccine targets,” said Birgitte Rønø, Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Evaxion.
Clinical Responses Through Three Years
The trial enrolled 16 patients, who received EVX-01 alongside Merck’s anti-PD-1 therapy KEYTRUDA for the first two years. According to the two-year results, the combination produced a 75% objective response rate, with 25% of patients achieving a complete response. Tumor reduction in target lesions occurred in 15 of the 16 patients, and 54% of patients saw their response deepen after starting EVX-01.
Six of the 12 responders then continued into a one-year extension, where they received EVX-01 as a stand-alone therapy. According to the company’s October 19 update, all patients maintained the clinical response observed at two years, with no tumor progression through the third year.
“What makes these three-year findings particularly compelling is not only the durability of clinical responses, but also the sustained strength and breadth of vaccine-induced T-cell immunity,” said Professor Muhammad Adnan Khattak of One Clinical Research, Hollywood Private Hospital and Edith Cowan University, who is one of the trial’s investigators.
ESMO Presentation and Cash Runway
Professor Khattak will present the data in a poster session at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress 2026 in Madrid on October 24. As a follow-up, Evaxion plans to host a webinar with him on October 29 at 10:30 a.m. EDT to review the clinical outcomes, the durability of responses and the vaccine-induced immune data.
Evaxion describes EVX-01 as its lead clinical asset and says the new data supports AI-Immunology as a validated technology for discovering and designing new treatments. Beyond EVX-01, the company’s pipeline includes personalized and off-the-shelf cancer vaccine candidates as well as prophylactic vaccine candidates for infectious diseases. Evaxion stated that its cash runway extends well into the second half of 2027.
