Key Points

  • AngioDynamics and The PERT Consortium selected Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, New York, for an ALPHA-PE Research Fund award.
  • The independent, investigator-led study will examine whether CT pulmonary angiography radiomics can help predict clot characteristics, mechanical thrombectomy success and longer-term pulmonary embolism outcomes.
  • The research team is led by Dr. Jonathan Alis and Dr. Seth I. Sokol.
  • ALPHA-PE awards range from $50,000 to $750,000 over one to three years for research addressing pulmonary embolism evidence gaps.
  • The announcement does not disclose the size, duration or study design details of Jacobi Hospital’s specific award.

AngioDynamics (NASDAQ: ANGO) and The PERT Consortium have selected Jacobi Hospital for funding through the ALPHA-PE Research Fund, supporting a study aimed at improving treatment decisions for patients with pulmonary embolism. The research will assess whether information extracted from CT pulmonary angiography images can help physicians anticipate how a blood clot may respond to mechanical thrombectomy.

Jacobi Hospital Study Will Evaluate CT Imaging Biomarkers in Pulmonary Embolism

Jacobi Hospital’s research team will evaluate CT pulmonary angiography radiomics, an approach that extracts and analyzes imaging features that may not be apparent through routine visual review. The study will investigate whether those features can serve as biomarkers of thrombus biology, predict thrombectomy success and help indicate a patient’s longer-term disease trajectory.

The objective is to generate real-world evidence that could help clinicians identify which pulmonary embolism patients are most likely to benefit from intervention and support more individualized treatment planning. The study is independent and investigator led; the announcement does not describe its expected enrollment, endpoints, timing or whether it will use a particular AngioDynamics product.

Research Addresses Limits in Predicting Thrombectomy Outcomes

Mechanical thrombectomy is used to remove obstructive clots in pulmonary embolism, but complete restoration of blood flow is not achieved in every procedure. AngioDynamics said physicians currently have limited ability to determine clot biology from CT pulmonary angiography or forecast how a clot will respond to thrombectomy.

By comparing imaging-derived features with thrombectomy and long-term outcomes, the Jacobi Hospital study aims to close that evidence gap. The potential clinical value depends on whether the imaging biomarkers prove reliable and useful in practice; the research has been selected for funding, not reported as a completed clinical result.

ALPHA-PE Fund Supports Independent PE Research

AngioDynamics created the ALPHA-PE Research Fund with The PERT Consortium to finance independent, physician-led studies in pulmonary embolism care. The competitive program provides awards of $50,000 to $750,000 over one to three years and focuses on patient outcomes, workflow optimization and novel therapeutic approaches.

For investors, the award underscores AngioDynamics’ strategy of supporting clinical evidence generation around pulmonary embolism care. It does not represent product revenue, regulatory clearance or clinical validation of a new diagnostic approach.
