Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (NASDAQ: CLNE) has announced a series of new agreements to supply renewable natural gas (RNG) and provide fueling infrastructure services to commercial, municipal, and transit fleet operators across the United States. The contracts highlight the growing adoption of RNG as a lower-carbon fuel solution for heavy-duty transportation.

Expanding RNG Use Across Trucking and Waste Fleets

Among the new agreements, Ecology Transportation Services will fuel its fleet of approximately 150 renewable natural gas trucks, purchasing an estimated 2.1 million gallons of RNG annually at Clean Energy fueling stations located throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Waste-management company Recology is also expanding its use of RNG through upgraded fueling stations in Seattle and Snohomish, Washington, supporting its fleet of refuse trucks operating on renewable natural gas.

Clean Energy will also continue providing operations and maintenance services for Waste Management (NYSE: WM) across more than 85 RNG fueling stations in North America, supporting roughly 8,000 natural gas-powered refuse trucks.

Growing Adoption Among Transit and Municipal Fleets

Public transit systems and municipal fleets are increasingly turning to renewable natural gas as part of their emissions reduction strategies.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has extended its agreement with Clean Energy to supply approximately five million gallons of RNG for more than 400 natural gas transit buses.

In Virginia, Arlington Transit will begin fueling its 78-bus fleet with renewable natural gas supplied by Clean Energy, representing about 750,000 gallons of fuel annually.

The City of Scottsdale, Arizona has also renewed its contract with Clean Energy for fueling and maintenance services supporting 49 refuse trucks, consuming approximately 441,000 gallons of RNG per year.

Additionally, Nashville International Airport will use Clean Energy fueling services to supply roughly 350,000 gallons of RNG annually for shuttle buses and airport fleet vehicles.

Renewable Natural Gas Driving Transportation Decarbonization

Renewable natural gas is produced from organic waste sources such as dairy farms, landfills, and wastewater facilities. By capturing methane that would otherwise enter the atmosphere, RNG provides a lower-carbon alternative to diesel for heavy-duty transportation.

Clean Energy Fuels operates one of the largest networks of RNG fueling stations in North America, supplying both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to commercial vehicle fleets.

Investor Perspective

For investors, the new contracts reinforce Clean Energy Fuels’ growing role in the alternative fuels market. As fleet operators and municipalities seek practical solutions to reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency, demand for renewable natural gas continues to expand.

Bottom Line

The latest agreements strengthen Clean Energy Fuels’ position in the renewable natural gas market, with expanded partnerships across trucking, waste management, public transit, and municipal fleets. The growing adoption of RNG highlights its increasing importance as a scalable low-carbon fuel for the transportation sector.
