Dragonfly Energy and Sphere Energy Partner on AI-Driven Battery Development

Key Points
- Dragonfly Energy and Sphere Energy plan to apply AI and machine learning to battery design, testing, and performance analysis.
- The work will draw on data from Dragonfly’s Battle Born Batteries, battery-management systems, laboratory testing, and cell-development programs.
- Lukas Lutz, Sphere Energy’s co-founder, joined Dragonfly’s board in June 2026.
- The partnership supports Dragonfly’s broader work in lithium-ion batteries, dry-electrode manufacturing, and all-solid-state battery technology.
- The companies did not disclose financial terms, forecast revenue, product timelines, or customer commitments.
Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp. (Nasdaq: DFLI) has partnered with Sphere Energy to use artificial intelligence in battery research, testing, and product development. The companies aim to combine Dragonfly’s battery data and energy-storage platform with Sphere Energy’s AI-based engineering and battery-simulation tools.
Dragonfly Looks to Turn Battery Data into Product Insights
Dragonfly has deployed hundreds of thousands of battery packs through retail and original equipment manufacturer channels. The company’s installed base, battery-management systems, and laboratory programs generate information on how batteries perform in real operating conditions and controlled tests.
The Sphere Energy partnership is intended to help Dragonfly analyze that data more efficiently. Possible uses include forecasting battery degradation, evaluating charging behavior, identifying potential quality issues, and testing product-design choices before conducting extensive physical validation.
If successful, AI-based analysis could shorten development cycles, improve product reliability, and lower engineering costs. However, Dragonfly has not provided performance targets or said when it expects these efforts to produce commercial benefits.
Sphere Energy Brings AI and Simulation Expertise
Sphere Energy is a Germany-based battery technology company focused on AI applications for engineering. Its platform is designed to use battery test data and AI models to simulate battery aging, performance, and other operating conditions.
Dr. Lukas Lutz, who co-founded Sphere Energy with Luca Scherrer and Dr. Daniel Alves Dalla Corte, joined Dragonfly Energy’s board in June. His appointment added battery, AI, data-modeling, and European market expertise to Dragonfly’s leadership team.
Partnership Supports Long-Term Battery Roadmap
Dragonfly’s current business centers on lithium battery systems, including Battle Born Batteries for recreational vehicle, marine, off-grid, industrial, and energy-storage applications.
The company is also developing dry-electrode battery manufacturing technology and nonflammable all-solid-state battery cells. Dragonfly has said its dry-electrode process may work across multiple battery chemistries. AI tools could potentially help the company assess battery materials, manufacturing settings, and performance trade-offs during those programs.
Investors Await Commercial Evidence
The Sphere Energy agreement strengthens Dragonfly’s technical-development strategy, but it is not yet a disclosed revenue event. The partnership’s investor value will depend on whether it creates measurable improvements in battery performance, product development, or operating efficiency.
Investors may watch for new AI-enabled battery products, updates on Dragonfly’s dry-electrode and solid-state programs, evidence of faster testing or lower development costs, and any future customer or commercialization agreements related to the partnership.
