Automated battery manufacturing line producing cylindrical energy-storage cells, representing Eos Energy’s expanding U.S. battery production capacity.

Key Points

  • Eos Energy received an $87 million advance under its U.S. Department of Energy loan agreement.
  • The funding reimburses 80% of eligible costs related to the company’s Thorn Hill manufacturing facility in Warrendale, Pennsylvania.
  • Eos has now drawn approximately $178 million from its DOE financing facility since 2024.
  • The company’s second production line began commercial production in June 2026 and is ramping toward 2 GWh of annual capacity.
  • Eos expects the Thorn Hill facility to support about 4 GWh of annual battery manufacturing capacity after relocating Line 1, subject to lender approvals.

Eos Energy Enterprises (NASDAQ: EOSE) has received an $87 million advance under the second tranche of its loan agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing.

The funding supports Eos’ Thorn Hill manufacturing facility in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, where the company produces zinc-based long-duration energy storage systems.

DOE Advance Reimburses 80% of Eligible Thorn Hill Manufacturing Costs

The $87 million advance reimburses Eos for 80% of eligible costs connected with its Thorn Hill facility.

Eos said the funding returns capital the company has already invested in its second production line back to its balance sheet. The company said this gives it additional financial flexibility to continue investing in the business while maintaining a disciplined growth strategy.

With the new advance, Eos has now drawn approximately $178 million under its DOE facility since 2024.

Second Production Line Ramps Toward 2 GWh of Annual Battery Capacity

Eos said its second production line at Thorn Hill entered commercial production in June 2026.

The line is now being ramped toward its planned annual manufacturing capacity of approximately 2 gigawatt-hours, or GWh. Eos expects to add jobs across four shifts as it increases production and brings additional shifts online.

The company said the expansion is part of its phased manufacturing scale-up strategy.

Thorn Hill Could Reach 4 GWh Capacity With Two Production Lines

Eos expects the Thorn Hill facility to support approximately 4 GWh of annual battery manufacturing capacity across two production lines.

That estimate assumes Eos completes the planned relocation of its first production line to Thorn Hill. The relocation remains subject to lender approvals.

The company said operating two lines at one site could improve efficiency by allowing better use of engineering teams, support resources, labor, and other manufacturing operations. Eos expects the combined operation to increase productivity and help optimize manufacturing costs.
