IREN Surges Past the Close as AI Data Center Frenzy Grips Wall Street

IREN stock after hours climbed higher after a 13% close, as the TeraWulf-Anthropic $19B deal ignited an AI data center rally. Here's what drove the surge.

IREN Limited (IREN) stole the spotlight today, and the stock kept running even after the closing bell rang. Shares jumped 13.11% during the regular session to finish at $43.91, then climbed another 1.16% in after-hours trading to reach $44.42 by 4:54 PM EDT. Among the day’s heavily-traded, high-profile names, no company delivered a stronger performance.

What Sparked the Rally

The catalyst originated one company over. Rival operator TeraWulf (WULF) signed a roughly $19 billion data center lease with Anthropic, and that single deal ignited the entire “neocloud” corner of the market. Almost immediately, Bitcoin-mining companies pivoting toward AI infrastructure caught the same updraft, and IREN rode it hard.

Momentum had already been building beneath the surface. Investors spent the prior session speculating about a possible Anthropic-related contract for IREN itself, which pushed the stock up nearly 5% overnight before the regular session even opened. Consequently, by the time the broader sector news hit, traders were primed to pile in.

The Company Behind the Ticker

IREN operates data centers across Australia and Canada, and the company is aggressively steering away from its Bitcoin-mining roots toward AI cloud services. Analysts increasingly frame it as an AI infrastructure play, pointing to its work alongside major technology firms and its rapidly expanding computing capacity.

Analysts Pile On

Wall Street sweetened the day further. Freedom Broker upgraded IREN to Buy and set a $58 price target, reinforcing the bullish mood. Moreover, the average one-year analyst target now sits around $81 — well above the current $44 level — which gives bulls plenty of runway to point toward.

The Fine Print

Investors should keep some perspective, however. A couple of smaller, thinly-traded names technically posted larger percentage gains today, including DSC Holdings (DSC) at +21% and ChipMOS (IMOS) at +13.4%. Yet neither carries IREN’s trading volume, media coverage, or clear catalyst. Therefore, IREN stands out as the day’s genuine headline stock — the rare mover that paired a powerful sector tailwind with company-specific momentum and then extended its gains once the market closed.
