Money bags marked with dollar signs representing SunPower’s $26.2 million private equity financing to support growth and its push toward profitability.

Key Points

  • SunPower raised $26.2 million through a private equity placement.
  • Foris Ventures, the family office of Kleiner Perkins Chairman John Doerr, anchored the financing.
  • SunPower said the majority of the new capital came from investors in Silicon Valley’s Sand Hill Road venture-capital community.
  • The company plans to use the funds as growth capital while working to restore profitability.
  • SunPower did not disclose the number of shares issued, the offering price, ownership stakes, or the resulting shareholder dilution.

SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWR) has raised $26.2 million in a private equity placement as the residential solar company seeks growth capital and works toward a return to profitability.

The financing was funded primarily by Silicon Valley venture investors based around Sand Hill Road. Foris Ventures, the family office of Kleiner Perkins Chairman John Doerr, served as the anchor investor in the round.

SunPower did not disclose the final terms of the equity placement, including the number of shares issued, purchase price, investor ownership levels, or the potential dilution for existing shareholders.

Silicon Valley Investors Back SunPower’s Growth Plan

Chief Executive Officer T.J. Rodgers said SunPower raised the funding after presenting the company’s strategy to venture-capital investors on Sand Hill Road.

Rodgers said the investor presentation focused on SunPower’s existing revenue base, a planned return to profitability, and what the company views as growth potential in the U.S. residential solar market.

According to Rodgers, SunPower received initial verbal commitments for most of the $26.2 million financing during those investor discussions.

Company Attributes Share-Price Decline to Solar Market and Execution Challenges

Rodgers said SunPower’s shares have traded below $1 amid a reset in the solar market following the loss of the Investment Tax Credit, or ITC.

He also cited execution issues in SunPower’s Direct division during the second quarter of 2026. The company reassigned leadership of the business to Kapil Rai, described by SunPower as its most experienced profit-and-loss manager.

Rodgers said the company expects the division to return to normal operations soon. However, SunPower did not provide a timeline for recovery or disclose updated operating guidance for the Direct business.

SunPower Targets Revenue Growth and Return to Profitability

SunPower said it currently generates approximately $300 million in annual revenue and has a market value of about $60 million. The company characterized that valuation as roughly 0.20 times sales.

Management said SunPower plans to grow profitably to $500 million in revenue next year. The announcement did not provide specific profitability targets, revenue guidance, margin assumptions, or details on the operating steps required to reach that goal.

SunPower also cited the U.S. residential solar market as a potential growth driver. The company said the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that only 6% of solar-capable U.S. homes had installed solar as of 2026.

SunPower said the EIA forecasts solar-market penetration could reach 30% by 2030. The company added that those estimates do not include potential electricity-price increases associated with artificial intelligence-driven power demand.

Management Outlines Four Potential Investor Return Scenarios

SunPower used an estimated $0.30 per-share price in its investor presentations and outlined four potential return scenarios.

Scenario presented by SunPower Estimated ROI multiple
Reaching a 0.72x price-to-sales ratio                 4.0x
Returning to the 52-week high of $2.27 per share                 7.6x
Achieving one-quarter of Enphase’s 2017 turnaround gain                 8.3x
Reaching an analyst’s $3.30 per-share price target              11.4x

These calculations reflect the company’s own presentation and are not predictions or guarantees. The outcomes depend on SunPower’s ability to restore execution, reach its revenue and profitability objectives, and operate successfully amid changing market conditions.

Financing Adds Cash, but Execution Remains the Main Test

The $26.2 million financing adds cash to support SunPower’s growth plans during a period of market pressure and operational challenges.

For investors, the company’s progress will depend on the eventual terms of the private placement, the amount of shareholder dilution, the recovery of the SunPower Direct division, revenue growth, and a return to profitability.

SunPower has presented an optimistic long-term market opportunity, but the company has not provided financial projections that establish when it will become profitable or how much revenue and earnings the new capital will generate.v
